The hotel was designed by famous Art Deco architect, Albert Anis.
The WinterHaven opened in 1939 and was advertised as an ultra modern hotel with large outside rooms, a sky top solarium, spacious lobby and mezzanine, a large veranda overlooking the ocean, and USD 1 per night rates. The recent restoration has preserved everything except the USD 1 per night rates.
The Art Deco interior is stylish yet understated to allow the architecture to shine. Decorative details such as the ornate Chinese mirrored panels, and the etched glass recessed wall panels were meticulously restored.
Exact replicas were made of the original chandeliers, sconces, and maple and mirror registration desk. A new wood and glass bar curves along one wall.

- What did you like the most?
- "This hotel is clean, reasonably priced, located on Ocean Drive but in the beginning of it, so it is not noisy. In fact, this is the only hotel we found with necessary combinarion of all these factors. It is not 5 stars luxury, but having spent time in several other hotels in Miami Beach I beleive that this is one of the best you can get. There is a nice view on the beach from 5 and 6 floor and roof access."

- "Windows in rooms don't open."

- Is there anything you didn't like?
- "General decor on the upper floors and carpets look a little tired. Shower curtain in 602 didn't come all the way to the floor, meaning that we got a pool of water every time we showered. Wifi was not working for some of the time. Breakfast overall could be improved."

- "Great location next to beach, in busy South Beach area, close to restaurants, yet in a quiet block. Nice lobby and bar. Spotlessly clean. Free internet and safe in room."

- "It is a simple hotel, no luxuries (nothing wrong with that, but good to know). WIFI gets overloaded at times and becomes slow."

- "The WinterHaven is located in the heart of South Beach. The staff was very helpful and made our stay enjoyable. The Lobby is quite spectacular, a lovely place to have a drink and relax."
