What did you like the most?
"It has the location right in Yosemite National Park, with great access to skiing, trails, climbing, all of it. Much better than camping out if you are there for winter activities. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to be helpful, despite power, phone, and computer failures induced by a passing storm."
Is there anything you didn't like?
"Just be aware that the standard rooms do not include bathrooms or showers, those are shared and at the end of the hall - one walks outdoors on the balcony to get to both. Rooms are quite small, as one might expect of a hotel dating to the 19th century."

What did you like the most?
"The Wawona is probably the second most charming place to stay at
Yosemite (after the much more expensive Awhanee). It's on a beautiful
set of large early-20th century houses and the decor goes with it, so
you feel like traveling in time a little bit. The room was small, but
comfortable and cozy.
Restroom and showers were shared but very clean and spacious. There is a lobby with a beautiful fireplace. Continental breakfast is included and very good. Other dishes were also available for purchase but the continental was good enough that we didn't feel the need. The restaurant also serves dinner and lunch. I had dinner one night there and it was really, really good, especially for a place in the middle of nowhere.
The staff is very courteous, relaxed and helpful.
The Wawona is pretty far from Yosemite Valley, the main park attraction. It takes some 30-40 minutes to get there. But that is probably a drive a lot of people would do anyway because it is very close to the Mariposa Grove where the giant sequoias are, so you save on time there, at least. Glacier Point, another popular spot, is also on the way to the Wawona, when you leave from the Valley.
Note that roads are closed during wintertime (Glacier Point was closed, for one, and there were no tours to the sequoias, although we could walk there). The road coming from Vegas was closed and we had to drive all the way to Fresno, so make sure the roads you plan to take are really open beforehand."
Is there anything you didn't like?
"Bathroom not close to the room is a slight discomfort."

What did you like the most?
"It's a phenomenal historic hotel run in an old-fashioned manner that is very pleasant and interesting. If you can't get a booking in the rooms with bathrooms, don't be afraid of the main block rooms with shared bath facilities. A lovely dressing-gown is provided for walking around the lit-up verandah to the facilities, and at night the air and the close-up trees are an experience.
The old-fashioned dining-room might make you wait to go in and eat, but the food was very good - much more than 'just' a good steak - and nicely served with no rush."
Is there anything you didn't like?
"Parking spaces run very short towards the evening, and we had to find a very obscure off-carpark spot in complete darkness (and is it dark at Wawona!). The hotel probably has good reason for not lighting the grounds, but a bit more consideration at reception to people arriving at night would be nice."

What did you like the most?
"This plantation-style hotel was so cute. I really liked the fact that the buffet breakfast was included in the price. The staff were really friendly and very accommodating, letting us check in close to midnight. I liked the campy feel having to walk down the hall to the shared bathrooms. I would gladly stay there again anytime, we had such a nice stay. :)"
