- "This region of Spain is Motorcycle Heaven and La Ablaneda is perfectly located to enable you to explore the whole of the western side of the Picos De Europa National Park and beyond. Returning to a spotlessly clean homely Hotel to chill after the days riding/sightseeing. The Hotel is run by Spanish couple "Batu" his wife Elena and family.We did not know at the time of booking but "Batu"& Elena are "Bikers" and have a Harley Springer and a Suzuki at their disposal. La Ablaneda is a very easy 128km ride from the excellent Portsmouth/Plymouth - Santander ferry. A 2 hr jaunt on the Harley or much faster for a sports bike! but - you'll miss the scenery! The roads are simply first class, devoid of traffic and even as they narrow and twist up the mountain passes the surface in general, remains excellent.
The hotel is set back from the main road and offers safe secure off road parking, the owners accommodation overlooks the hotel car park. The hotel grounds are very well maintained and spacious. There are numerous areas in the grounds where one can relax outside and the hotel lounge is very cosy indeed.
The reason I chose this hotel was location. It is perfect for picking off the well documented tourist attractions like - The Basilica at Covadonga (a nice walk from the hotel). Lake Ercina and Enol (take the car/motorbike unless you are half goat and super fit). Cangas de Onís with it's Roman bridge. Once at the hotel "Batu" offered suggestions on other less known places to visit and the awesome routes you can take to get to them. Ask and go! the "road" from Nueva on the coast to Corao near the hotel takes you up through a pine forest and into the mountains, bit err twisty in places but did it two up on the Harley.
The welcome at the hotel was genuine and so friendly. I would not hesitate to stay at La Ablaneda again next time in the Picos." - Is there anything you didn't like?
