- "Hotel Ultramar is a very nice friendly hotel. We were very impressed by how warm and pleasant all the staff were. There is always someone at the front desk and they are very helpful with any query you might have. The decor in the downstairs is really cool and there is also a very nice outdoor area for relaxing or having food. The breakfast is good with fresh eggs available on request. The rooms upstairs are basic but have all you need including a safe, extra blanket etc. The main areas are about a fifteen minute walk but with all the very steep hills in Valparaiso people just use taxis. I would really recommend you stay at this hotel."

- "The only issue we had was with the taxi driver Gustavo who the hotel use. We made a booking with him to take us to the bus when leaving but he never showed up. When he was phoned he still didn't bother coming so the hotel called a regular taxi. This was not the hotels fault rather the man himself. He didn't care that we were going to miss the bus, he didn't have the decency to show up and try to get us there and he never apologised. He had no idea where we were going and how much money we were set to lose. I think this is not acceptable behaviour from a so called professional. The previous night when we used him he didn't know where ViaVia cafe was and the first night he took us into town for an ATM after telling us there was none on Conception Hill when in fact there is . I would recommend using a regular taxi."
