Set in an elegant 18th-century building, the Café Hotel Knösel provides a charming base from which to explore the university town.
Sights including the famous castle and the vibrant Hauptstrasse shopping street are within easy reach. There are many bars and restaurants near the hotel.
Dating back to 1863, the Café Knösel is the oldest café in Heidelberg and is furnished with inviting wood décor and warm colour schemes.
The café was a popular 19th-century meeting point, and is where the famous Studentenkuss (student kiss) praline was invented. Nowadays you can still enjoy home-baked cakes, tarts and warm cuisine until 22:00 each day.

- "Of course - excellent location, being on the Fish Market platz, at the head of the shopping and tourist area."
- Is there anything you didn't like?
- "Surly staff from arrival and only got worse. No internet, no parking nearby. There are so many good hotels within 2 blocks, this is one to avoid. The attitude of the staff indicates an urgent need for a career change - rather off putting, at the least."
