The Catedral de Santa María La Real de La Almudena, mostly known as the Catedral de la Almudena (The Cathedral of Almudena or Almudena Cathedral), is a place not to miss. The Cathedral is 102 metres long and 73 metres high; this building shows a mixture of Neoclassic art in the outside, Neo-gothic style in the inside and Neo-romantic style in the crypt. Next to the Oriente Square and the gardens of Campo del Moro (Moor´s Field) it was blessed by Pope Joan Paul II in 1993. It is worth visiting the paintings and stained glass windows decorating the abse of the Cathedral. In its surroundings you will find inexpensive guest houses with good facilities and restaurants with dishes and food typical from Madrid.
