Casa Milá (La Pedrera)

Casa Milà is situated in el Paseo de Gracia and was designed by architect Antonio Gaudì. The construction was carried out between 1906 and 1910. The façade was made in calcareous rock except for the upper part, which is recovered with white tiles. The combination of both materials makes the building look like a snowy mountain. Organic shapes are the main ingredient of this construction. At the roof, the stairway tops, crowned with Gaudí-designed crosses, peep out.

In 1986, Caixa Catalunya purchased the building and has invested in its conservation and restoration (1987-1996), and has kept it open to the public. Visitors can access the fourth floor, the storage room and the terrace. UNESCO listed Casa Milà as a World Heritage Site in 1984 along many of the other “obras de Antonio Gaudí”, or oeuvres of Gaudí in Barcelona.
