- "More like suggestions really - A better name would be Samai Ocean View Lodge. The ocean is a mile away. .- There are good nature trails but they are unmarked and all but the owners don't HAVE enough English to help. They should be marked and promoted. A near rain forest experience is not being utilized. - Spa facilities are minimal.."

- "The design of the entire resort is wonderful and the setting and landscape is beautiful. The restaurant is lovely and although we didn't have our meals there, the breakfast was excellent. The pool and hot tub area is also lovely with spectacular views of the surrounding hills and beach. Birds are everywhere and Buddy the resident dog is a hoot, as is the resident donkey. This resort is a real tribute to the vision of its owners, Tania and Ed, who are very gracious hosts, as well as being supremely available and helpful. Tania handled all of the arrangements for our day-trip to Isla de la Plata as well as organizing a driver for our trip to Cuenca when we left. She suggested Cuenca hotels and provided helpful information about other areas that we planned to visit. Both Ed and Tania had helpful suggestions about walks and restaurants in the Olon/Montanita area. While the resort is atop a mountain, it was an easy walk to the beautiful beach, and quite a long but very enjoyable walk into Montanita for the most part along the beach. If you don't like walking, Tania will organize a taxi which is a short $5 trip to Montanita. If you are visiting the Montanita area, you should stay here unless you prefer the more mundane and noisy hotel offerings in town."

- "We can't comment on the restaurant meals as we ate in Montanita where the restaurants are fine, but nothing exceptional. Montanita itself has a great beach and has an energy that is lots of fun. Also, if coming by taxi be sure that the driver understands that the resort is in the region of Santa Elena not in the town with the same name. The booking address is a bit confusing and as a result our driver took us about 50 km further south to the town of Santa Elena, and had to return to Olon. Not a problem for us but a time-waster for him."

- "The jacuzzi is only heated on request and takes several hours to get hot (if at all)"

- "The hotel is on top of a mountain and the views are spectacular. I can see the ocean to the west and the mountains to the east. Unlike most of the coast this area is lush and tropical. The staff is great, they have gone to great lengths to help me when my rental car had problems. The food is organic and delicious. If you want a tropical, beautiful, friendly, healthy getaway for a reasonable price this place is perfect. Five minutes and you are at the beach, ten minutes to all the tourist activities in Montanita. This was exactly right for me."
