The Aeropuerto Internacional Madrid-Barajas (International Madrid-Barajas Airport) is 12 kilometers from the city centre; the first Spanish airport for passenger traffic, air cargo and operations. It is also the fourth airport in Europe as for number of passengers and the eleventh in the world. It is also the European airport with more connections with Latin America, thanks to Iberia air line being the leader air company between Europe and Latin America and its T4 (Terminal 4), a transfer point to cover those destinations. Its national and international air traffic started on 22 April 1931, although the regular trade operations took two years to start. Line 8 of the Madrid Metro (Nuevos Ministerios-Aeropuerto T4) joins the station of Nuevos Ministerios with the airport terminals in about 15-20 min. It is one of the two European airports with different metro stations, two in the case of Barajas and three in the case of Heathrow. Barcelona airport is also worth mentioning, with three metro stations, two local Renfe train stations and a high speed station.
