It is the second most important railway station in the city after Atocha. It connects with the North and West of Spain, with cities such as Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Barcelona and many other towns in between. Medium and long distance trains arrive here and there are also international trains to France and Portugal. Besides, the station has an important commercial and leisure area. Chamartín is connected by a regional service with Atocha station and since 2009 it has also been connected to the Estación de Sol (the Sun Station). At Chamartín station there is service to metro lines 1 and 10.
