Hostal Gran Duque is located in Piedrahita (2.300 inhabitants), a locality of the province of Avila. Originally it was a fortified settlement, that is why you will find some ancient traces and strong walls here. Among the most outstanding buildings there are: - Palacio de los Duques de Alba dating back to the XVIIIth century with a beautiful garden. One step from it you will find the Convento de Santo Domingo (XIV). - Iglesia Parroquial, dating back to the XIIIth century, occupied by gorgeous storks, within it there is a picture of Santa Teresa (Grerorio Hernandez). - The Ruins of the Convento de Santao Domingo, beatified by Juan Pablo II. - An ancient cementary, located in the interior of the Convento de Santo Domingo, a true architectural jewel with a small beautiful chapel. - Reloj de la Villa, made in 1439. Activities: Due to its geographical situation (surrounded by Macizo Central de Gredos in the South and by Meseta Castellana in the North) Piedrahita is a perfect place for long haul flights, paragliding, and hang gliding. You can also enjoy hiking, horse riding and fishing in its surroundings.
