Guided visits – exclusive city-tours – walking-tours Are you looking for inside tips and things you’d never discover on your own? Are you interested in background and context information? Do you want explanations in depth on Andalusian art and culture, its language and traditions? Would you like to know more about the cultural heritage of the Moorish period or about Baroque painting? Do you want to see breathtaking natural settings with beautiful flora and fauna? We offer this and more! These are some of the suggestions that we have. We are also open to your demands and to organising activities in your own particular area of interest. ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA, the magic of a town (Half day or full day visit) Walking through the streets of this town, that seems to be painted on the slopes of a mountain at the beginning of the Sierra de Cádiz, is like being transported to a dreamlike place of small, narrow and hilly streets, white houses and lovely stoned “patios” full of colourful flowers. But Arcos also calls to let yourself be impressed by the beautiful panoramic view that is to be seen from the “Plaza del Cabildo,” which overlooks the valley of the Guadalete River and the orchards and lemon trees with the Sierra behind. We will visit and enjoy the most important monuments, finding out the artistic-symbolic language of the Santa Maria Church and of San Pedro. In the afternoon we will visit a “Bodega” in the most pure “Chateau”- style, and taste some of its excellent wines. And if there is still time, we suggest a visit to a ceramics workshop where an artisan makes fascinating mosaics following the traditional Moorish-Andalusí techniques. To finish the day off we may also visit the excavation-site where some huge water deposits have been very well conserved from the time of the Romans. THE ROUTE OF THE WHITE VILLAGES (One day trip) Arcos is also the starting point for the Route of the White Villages of the Sierra de Cádiz, which will be completed by visiting El Bosque, Benamahoma, Grazalema, Zahara de la Sierra, Villaluenga del Rosario, El Gastor y Olvera, villages that have been carved into the mountains with their small streets and which are alive with history , small dreamlike “plazas” and “patios” with balconies that overlook valleys, mountains and rocks. And the Sierra itself with its forests of Pinsapo trees and cork oaks offers many surprises. If you are interested we can visit an olive-oil mill and a traditional cheese factory, all a discovery!! JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA, churches, palaces and wine-cellars (Half day or full day visit) Come and get to know Jerez old centre, declared to be of Historical Artistic interest, which is full of traditional, quaint streets and squares where you can discover secluded and hidden corners amongst fountains, orange trees, palaces, churches and Sherry bodegas. We discover this beautiful town step by step, going to see the Alcázar, the oldest and most important historical monument in the city, former residence of the Moorish governors, with its Mosque, Olive Oil Mill and Moorish Baths. The Camera Obscura (Dark Room) allows us to see the whole town from above. We will find the trace of the Mudéjar- style in the churches and contemplate some of its many palaces and beautiful houses. If you wish, we can go on a visit to the Archeological Museum, the Clock-Museum, an authentic Palace of Time. But what would Jerez be without its wine cellars? The most well known and biggest “Bodegas” you can visit on yourown, we will take you to the smaller jewels that still preserve their magic and where sherry is the main protagonist. SEVILLA, joyful monumental capital (Half day or full day visit) Come and see this generous and joyful city on the shores of the Guadalquivir river. We will do a complete journey through all the different artistic styles of Andalusian history. The Alcázar keeps the secrets of Islamic art, the magnificent Cathedral preserves an artistic treasure of incalculable value, La Casa de Pilatos is the best example of civil Mudéjar-renaissance architecture and the baroque building of the Hospital de la Caridad reflects important sides of Andalusian spirituality like no other monument. Finally we come to meet the traces of the 20th century, which are represented in the architecture of the Pavilions of the Latin American World's Fair Exhibition of 1929 at the María Luisa Park and also of the Expo ’92 by its futurist lines. We can complete the day by visiting the Fine Arts Museum with masterpieces of Murillo, Zurbarán and other artists. RONDA, bullfighters, bandoleros and poets (Half day or full day visit) The legend tells that the most famous bandoleros (bandits) came from the Serranía de Ronda. It also says that the artists who came to visit Ronda ended up staying... What is so special about Ronda? We will see it for ourselves as we walk through the old quarter: The famous bullring, the oldest in Spain, and the bullfighting museum, where we are invited to think about the “corridas de toros”... The church of Santa María La Mayor represents one of the most interesting Marian temples of Andalusia. The majestic New Bridge with the lovely “hanging gardens”, symbol and soul of the city. The Mondragón Palace. The Minaret of San Sebastián. The Don Bosco House, with its marvelous view, the Arab Baths. The English style Hotel Reina Victoria, which still keeps a room in the memory of the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke. All these are also monuments of interest. CÁDIZ, Europe’s oldest city (Half day or full day visit) From “Puerta Tierra” we will take you to the accurately named “City of light and wind” or “Small silver cup”, walking the almost circular form of the city on the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy the atmosphere of the streets and squares of Cádiz, specially the surroundings of the Central Market, the Viña Quarter and La Caleta. We will also go to see the Church of San Felipe Neri and the Parlament-Museum. In the former Women’s Hospital there are some beautiful architectural details and a masterpiece of one of our greatest painters, El Greco, to be admired. In the Santa Cueva Oratory we’ll show you paintings by Francisco Goya and listen to music by Joseph Haydn. Other monuments worth seeing are the Cathedral, the Archeological Museum, and the Tavira Tower with its “Camera Obscura” or Dark Room. CÓRDOBA, the splendour of Andalusia (One or two day visit, with overnight arrangements if required) Here is where the Moorish-Andalusian era achieved its most glorious time, in art, sciences and society. Experience the charming forest of columns in the Mosque-Cathedral, which reflects magnificently Islamic spirituality, walk through the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter with the small Synagogue and the lovely Casa Andalusí and discover the beautiful gardens of the Alcázar of the Christian Kings. If you have spare time, we will show you the Museum in the Calahorra-Tower, the fascinating Medinat az- Zahra, where the Omayyad caliphs of Córdoba once lived. Finally we visit the hermitage Las Ermitas, which seems to be hanging over the Guadalquivir valley.
