- All the shower and washbasins taps have dispenser of water volume.
- All the personnel recycle every day: paper, glass, plastic, batteries, cartridges, etc… and other residues in five different small containers and at the end of the day each product the personnel bring them to the corresponding big containers outside the hostel. We work with ECOPILAS, Foundation for environmental management of batteries.
- The personnel works with a t-shirt with green and white logo looking for the help of all the guests for taking care of environment.
- In each room there is a document with the environment policy translated to several languages.
- In the leaf of check in to the also specific back the policy of the inn to take care of the environment.
- Every day we put more light bulbs of low consumption.
- In the cleaning of the Hostel we use biodegradable products with neutral pH with the trade mark Johnson Diversey.

- In the foot of the electronic mail, in the business card of the Hostel and in all the documents of the Hostel we request the collaboration with the environment.
- We are member of two Organizations that take care of pets: one in Madrid and other in Barcelona.
- Medicines, so beneficial to our health, are very damaging to nature if we throw away or down the drain, because they damage the environment and contaminate our soil and our waters. So do not throw away the remnants of drugs, or their containers, or for drain waste and carry it to the pharmacy of Antonio Sanchez Merino next to the Hostal Mindanao. In this way we contribute the health of nature. For more information: www.sigre.es
- The care of the environment is a culture subject and that all we must learn every day.
Thank you very much.

This is the name given to the Monday following Easter, reminding us of the times when the prostitutes were restrained to the other side of the river in the brothel set up in 1498. They went in boats to La Salud de Tejares to pass Lent, returning on the Monday of Quasimodo, also by boat. Waiting for them to return, which could occur at any time of the day, the people of Salamanca gathered together along the river banks and on the Roman bridge and organized popular picnics in which the famous Easter Cake was never missing. The tradition is still kept alive in the city (taken from the book “Salamanca: Fiestas y Tradiciones”). San Juan de Sahagún (12th June). This festivity coincides with the garlic harvest, and therefore strings of garlic are on sale at the various Salamanca street markets. La “Mariseca” (15th August). A bull-shaped weather vane in the form of a bull is erected at the top of the belfry on the Town Hall façade. Prelude to the main festivities. Virgen de la Vega (From the 8th to the 15th September). The major fi estas of Salamanca, held in honour of its patron saint, featuring a series of bullfi ghts, novilladas (fi ghts with younger bulls), open-air dances and shows, trade fairs and livestock competitions. El “Mariquelo” (31st October). To commemorate the Lisbon earthquake (1755), a person (the “Mariquelo”) With a drum and clarinet climbs up the outside of the New Cathedral tower. On the cross which crowns it, he greets the audience and plays a tune known as a“charrada”. BULLFIGHTING The deep-rooted bullfighting tradition of Salamanca, a province renowned for its breeding of fighting bulls, comes to light in September during the festivities held in honour of the local patron saint, when a myriad of posters featuring the names of the very best “toreros” invite the public to the ring. HANDICRAFTS The button has become a true symbol of the province of Salamanca, thanks to the creativity of the local gold and silversmiths. Unique features of the famous Salamanca brooches and earrings are the filigree with which they are crafted and the durable nature of the seed pearls used. A wide range of leather goods are on offer in Salamanca, whose streets are a succession of workshops producing horse riding tack, saddles, footwear and other leather articles. Outstanding amongst the textile crafts in Salamanca are its openwork embroidery, bobbin lace and shawls. If one is interested in pottery, one simply must not miss the intricately designed Alba de Tormes plates, and for the storage and transport of goods there are few better containers to be found than those made from chestnut fibre. GASTRONOMY Lentils from La Armuña. Specific Guarantee of Origin recognized in 1993-96 by the European Union. Lentils are cultivated in the district of La Armuña, located to the northwest of the province of Salamanca. It seems that lentils were introduced into this area by the Romans. Their main characteristic is that they are quite fl at and mottled with green in their natural state. Once cooked, the beans remain whole and the skin does not come loose. Rich in protein, fibre, iron and calcium. Hornazo Salmantino. This is the name given to a large pie whose main ingredients are “chorizo” (spicy sausage), ham, pork, and pork fat and boiled eggs. Hornazo is traditionally eaten on Monday of Waters, in memory of the days when students from Salamanca University would welcome back the ladies of easy virtue, who during Holy Week were forced into “exile” at the neighbouring village of Tejares. Farinato. The spicy fl avour of this very long sausage (made of breadcrumb, pork fat and spices) is simply unforgettable. Cut into slices and fried in lard, farinato is normally served mid-morning as a snack. Ham. Salamanca is renowned for its salted and cured pork meats. The hams of the Cerdo Ibérico breed from the Guijuelo region ( see www.simonmartin.es), naturally-fed on acorns, have gained international repute and feature a dark-coloured variety called “Pata Negra” whose taste is truly sublime.
